Holmfirth Artweek 2006

Last year’s Artweek was one of the most successful ever – with sales of art work during the seven days exceeding £93,000 The commission on this (plus money rasied from tickets, catalogues, the raffle, the tea-room and the Fringe venues) means that we were be able to donate £33,000 to Macmillan Cancer Relief – a terrific sum for a local fundraising event.

The success of Artweek depends entirely on the enthusiastic help willingly given by so many people. We’d like to thank you for the part you played in this year’s event, whether by exhibiting your work, staffing the exhibition or the craft market, demonstrating your craft, helping in the construction & dismantling of the display stands, donating your goods, or in any other way. Please be assured that whatever your contribution it is very much appreciated by us all.

In addition there will be 19 smaller fringe venues around the Holme Valley

As usual art-lovers arrived very early on Sunday morning to be sure of buying their favourite items and by the time the Exhibition opened a long queue was stretching up Huddersfield Road.

Artweek is now a local event with a national reputation – most of the 390 exhibitors are from this area but visitors come from all over the country to look and to buy. It is astounding how much artistic talent there is locally and it is this that makes the event such a success and brings so many visitors to Holmfirth every year.

No-one gets paid to run Artweek and it couldn’t run without the dedicated teams of volunteers who give their time freely year after year – we wish to thank them all for their splendid efforts in making this the biggest fundraising event in the Valley’s calendar.

How to apply for entry 2006

Public entries – open to all

Holmfirth Art Exhibition 2006 will be open to all artists, both amateur and professional. Each person may submit up to two pieces – there is no selection process for the public entries but space is limited, and the Exhibition is always over-subscribed, so a draw is held to select each year’s exhibitors.

If your application is succesful you will receive instructions, in the first week of May 2006 about submitting your work; if your name is not drawn your cheque will be returned.

Help!

Would you like to help make Artweek 2006 another successful event? All the people you see working at the Exhibition are volunteers - stewards, tearoom staff, sales desk staff, raffle ticket sellers [not to mention those behind the screens who you may not see - organisers, screen builders, lighting fitters, picture hangers]. The whole event is run voluntarily and each day we need 80 people to keep things running smoothly so if you can spare a few hours please get in touch.

In addition we especially need help setting up and dismantling the Exhibition.

Setting up screens happens one week before the opening on the morning of Sunday 25 June from 9:00.

Taking everything down and putting it all away is on Sunday 9th July, also from 9:00.

Please come on one or both dates – your help will be greatly appreciated! Just turn up or call Richard on 01484 69 94 94.

Main Exhibition

The main Exhibition in the Civic Hall is one of the biggest open exhibitions in the country featuring work by around 390 professional & amateur artists.

Collection of Purchases
and unsold works 2006

All work on display is for sale and may paid for at any time when the Exhibition is open. The work remains on display until the end of the Exhibition on Saturday.

As soon as the Exhibition closes at 17.00 on Sat 8 July purchases may be collected [on presentation of the buyer's receipt, please]. Artists may also collect their unsold works at the same time [cheques for work which has been sold will be ready as soon as possible after 18:00 – but please have patience as our treasurer has to calculate final payments and write cheques for 390 people!].

As in the last 5 years collection of purchases and unsold work is on Saturday only. To make it easier for artists and buyers the collection time has been lengthened by 2 hours but please note the Civic Hall will not be open on Sunday.
